Erlanger Spotlight Award FAQs

BACK TO THE NOMINATION FORM

What’s the goal of the Erlanger Spotlight Award?

We see the Erlanger Spotlight Award as one of many ways to foster and maintain a culture of gratitude here at Erlanger.  Recognition is one of our core values! This program is a way to formally identify, recognize, and award Erlanger employees who demonstrate exceptional performance and offer unique contributions toward our mission of compassionately caring for people.

Who is eligible for nomination?

All employees of Erlanger Health System are eligible, with the exception of leaders currently serving in Leadership Forum.  We certainly think that our leaders deserve recognition for great work, but this program is intended for our outstanding employees who are not members of Leadership Forum.  Also, Providers (physicians and APPs) are not eligible as they are nominated using the EMG Spirit of Excellence Award.

Is this program only for employees working in a clinical role?

Not at all. You can nominate any outstanding employee, whether they work in a clinical or non-clinical role.

I am awesome! Can I nominate myself?

We think you’re awesome too, and we love your self-confidence! But unfortunately, employees must be nominated by someone other than themselves.

What constitutes “exceptional performance” and “unique contributions” to our mission?

Examples of this include (but are not limited to):

  • Performing extra duties beyond those normally assigned.
  • Performing other roles when the department is short-staffed.
  • Volunteering for and working on special projects.
  • Developing new work methods that reduce waste or stretch resources.
  • Making creative suggestions that save the department time or money.
  • Providing services to others that are beyond assigned responsibilities.
  • Taking ownership over a problematic issue and enduring until a solution is achieved.
  • Or even employees who perform normally assigned responsibilities at an exceptional level consistently (as identified by a supervisor).

When submitting your nomination, please give a thorough description of the nominee’s actions. The more details, the better!

How will the recipients be recognized?

Employees selected to receive the Erlanger Spotlight Award will receive media praise and recognition throughout the network and in the community. They will also receive a plaque commemorating their recognition, as well as a monetary gift card! (Please be aware that Uncle Sam considers monetary gifts to be taxable income.)

How many awards are given and how often?

We award 20 winners each quarter.

Who selects the recipients of the award?

The Spotlight Award Committee reviews nominations and selects the employees that demonstrate exceptional performance and offer unique contributions toward our mission of compassionately caring for people.

Who sits on the Spotlight Award Selection Committee?

The Committee comprises 9 to 11 leaders working in a diversity of departments and representing multiple campuses.

My nominee doesn’t work on the Baroness campus. Can I still nominate them for the award?

Yes! Employees from all campuses are eligible.

Can I nominate someone for something they did back in the 90’s?

Unfortunately, no. A lot happened during the 90’s—good and bad! The actions for which you nominate someone should have occurred within the last three months.

Can contract workers be nominated?

Our contractors are a crucial part of our team, and we are immensely grateful for their contribution to our mission. Yet contractors are legally employed by other organizations that recognize staff in their own unique ways.  Contractors include Sodex, Walden, and other employers who are not Erlanger employees.

What department(s) sponsor the Erlanger Spotlight Award?

The Erlanger Spotlight Award program is jointly administrated by Employee Relations and Organizational Development in Human Resources. In addition, the Spotlight Award Committee—composed of 9 to 11 leaders working in a diversity of departments and representing multiple campuses—reviews nominations and selects recipients.

I have suggestions to improve the program.  Who do I send those to?

We want to make the Erlanger Spotlight Award the best employee recognition program that it can be! If you have thoughts on ways to make it better, please send to [email protected].
